Overview

The ECWCS system, more precisely the Extended Cold Weather Clothing System, is a clothing system specially designed to provide the user with protection against low temperatures. This standard was invented in 1980 by the United States Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, Natick, Massachusetts. There are 3 generations of such clothing systems developed over the years based on needs.

Description

The Helikon-Tex ECWCS Gen.2 jacket is part of the second generation ECWCS clothing system. It is made from various types of synthetic materials, providing protection against moisture and the ability to retain heat. The waterproof capability has a measured value of 10000mm water column, while the materials used also allow for effective ventilation of the user with a capacity of 5000g/m²/24h.

Functionality

As a military uniform, the jacket is equipped with many very useful pockets. Specifically, there are two inner pockets in the chest area, four hand pockets at the bottom with side and top access, and two arm pockets.

In the elbow area, there is a reinforced section, very useful against wear. On the chest and arms, there are sections with Velcro for attaching badges or patches. The size around the waist can be adjusted. Additionally, on the inside around the waist, there is a section designed to retain the warm air generated by the body while preventing cold air from the outside or other elements that may lower the internal temperature.

To prevent excessive heat buildup, the jacket is equipped with zippered ventilation openings in the underarm area. To provide complete protection, the jacket features a hood. The hood can be packed inside the collar, saving space. The sleeves are adjustable, contributing to the accumulation of internal heat while also allowing for better maneuverability of the arms.

The zippers used are made by YKK, recognized as some of the most durable zippers on the market.
